Perrins were delighted to assist in a recent initiative by Barratt Homes who teamed up with pupils from St.John’s Catholic School in Baldock, Herts last Friday, 16 July, to create a long lasting memory of the local community, by burying a time capsule at the housebuilder’s Templar’s Gate development.
The pupils, who have been working on the project for the last few weeks, were briefed to select the items based on what they believed would best represent themselves and help future generations gain a better understanding of school life in Baldock in 2010.
Also present was Archaeologist, Keith Fitzpatrick Matthews who spoke to the children on Baldock’s history before the capsule was lowered into the ground. The ceremony was attended by Nick Pickersgill of Perrins, who carried out the necessary legal work, and the Chief Executive and the Head of Development for North Herts Homes, Perrins’ clients who have agreed to the capsule being buried within the social housing area of the development that they are funding.
The pupils’ form tutor for year 6 at St John’s commented: “It was a fantastic activity for our pupils to be involved with. It’s nice to see events like these bring the local community together. The children loved coming up with their ideas for the time capsule and being part of such a historical event, I’m sure the day will be a long lasting memory for everyone involved.”
Chris Scarborough, sales director for Barratt North London, explained: “As a housebuilder we recognise the importance of community and thought that this would be a fun and educational activity to get people involved with. We wanted to help create a record of what life’s like today in the area, in the hope that our efforts will one day prove useful for children of the future, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the past. Special thanks go to Perrins Solicitors who helped to make the process possible”.
